A digital practice has its perks! Our state-of-the-art digital X-ray machine in Beverly Hills and Encino, California, allows Dr. Sid Molayem to take beautiful X-rays with great clarity and minimal radiation exposure. Since we take all our own digital X-rays in our office, the images are instantly ready to help diagnose any problems and establish a treatment plan your orthodontic care. During your evaluation, we will also use the X-rays to check for any abnormalities and help you plan if and when you need to have your wisdom teeth removed.
What kind of machine do you use?
Beverly Hills Braces uses the 2017 model Carestream 8100 SC.
How much radiation exposure am I getting?
Glad you asked. We know some of you are science geeks like us, so if you want the real details on how much exposure there is with digital X-rays, here are the raw numbers as given by the manufacturer:
Panoramic X-ray: 75-102 mGy.cm2
Cephalometric X-ray: 28-37 mGy.cm2
How harmful is that?
Dental X-rays are within the safe margin. If you are getting X-rays from the dentist on the regular prescribed basis, your chances of having any adverse effects are nearly non-existent unless you have a pre-existing condition. We actually get more radiation from living in a big city for a year than we do from X-rays taken in a dental office.
Is there any danger being in the office while other patients are getting X-rays?
Our machine has such an accurate area of focus while taking an X-ray that minimal radiation escapes past the patient’s mouth and sensor. In fact, if you are standing 6 or more feet away from the X-ray beam, even if you are in the same room, you are completely safe.
Can I get a copy of the X-rays?
Since they are digital, any images we gather of your teeth, whether they be radiographs or photos, can be easily e-mailed to you or other healthcare professionals on your dental team. Just ask!
If you have more questions about digital X-rays and how our orthodontist uses them as part of your treatment, or if you would like to make an appointment, we invite you to call our practice today at 310-278-9101. We are always happy to help!
